This year I will be sharing brief excerpts from the articles, sermons, and books I am currently reading. My posts will not follow a regular schedule but will be published as I find well-written thoughts that should be of interest to maturing Christian readers. Whenever possible, I encourage you to go to the source and read the complete work of the author.

What Caused America’s Economic Crisis?

As much about the economic bailout continues to unfold, we are all trying to get as much information as we can to determine whether we should support the government plan of action or ask our representatives in Washington to oppose it. What will be the final cost and how will it be financed? How will it effect our families and friends?

Below are links to three excellent articles by John Stossel, Edwin Feulner, and Don Rich. Each provides an interesting perspective on the state of the American economy.

John F. Stossel is a consumer reporter, author and co-anchor for the ABC News show 20/20. His reports, a blend of commentary and reporting, reflect his libertarian political philosophy, his views on economics and his skepticism of conventional wisdom. In his decades as a reporter, Stossel has received numerous honors and awards for his reports.

Edwin J. Feulner is President of The Heritage Foundation. Feulner’s leadership was recognized twice in 2007. First, GQ magazine named him one of “Washington’s 50 most powerful” as voted by the city’s “top think tankers, congressional aides and political journalists.” And in November that year, the London Telegraph named him one of the 100 most influential conservatives in America. Feulner is the author of seven books.

If We Are In Christ

Pilgrim's Progress

Pilgrim's Progress

“And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” (Colossians 3:17)

If we are in Christ, then there is not one moment of our lives to which Jesus has no claim. We are His. You have not just turned wholly to God; you have also rejected the idol of “Me” and “Mine.” Christ becomes the treasure of our hearts.

It is easy to make an outward pretense of being a Christian. True Christianity, however, is a surrender of the will to the will of Christ. Jesus is served in every issue of life. God is to be glorified in all things. When we are in Christ, our thinking, our speaking, and our actions are committed in view of His glory. Everything is done in Him and through Him.

J. W. Chapman, when considering this topic, wrote these words:

“Anything that dims my vision for Christ, or takes away my taste for Bible study, or cramps me in my prayer life, or makes Christian work difficult, is wrong for me; and I must, as a Christian, turn away from it.”
